What is the easiest, yet cheapest, way to calculate BMI? Before my accident I had one of those scales that you can stand on and sends the current through your feet, although it was not very accurate it at least gave me an idea as to where I was at. I did see some hand-held things that uses the same principal but I am not sure about those since the current would not be going through my legs. Any ideas?

I hate the BMI, don't go by it. The best way to see where you are at is to use a Body Fat Analyzer. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3342463 From that it will tell you how much lean muscle mass you have and how much lbs of body fat you have and more. Each pound of body fat = 3,500 Calories.

I have an iphone app that calculates BMI but of course it doesn't factor in lean body mass. It'll probably tell you you're obeise when you are fit and muscular. I started looking into those dunk tests. Here's a link to a company that does testing in several states hopefully one in your area.

It's around $40-$50 to get an accurate body fat reading. But for a quick, cost effective and convenient test I would go with TheBeast's recommendation.

They don't do the BMI but most gyms will test you for free if you just ask. They will do the skin fold test, some may have the other test. Just ask.

I went to Walmart planning to pick one of those up, I have a Supercenter one and they do not carry the analyzers I guess. I looked around the blood pressure machines and other medical and I also looked back in the fitness stuff and did not see it or even a spot for it...

Today at my gym I saw one of the trainers calculating BMI/body fat% with one of those handhelds so my buddy and I got tested. My buddy is pretty lean and I would guess his BF% to be around 6-8%. I on the other hand am atleast 12-15%. When my buddy got his reading it kept popping up as an error. When I did the test it said I was at 4.5% body fat. I think i'll stick with calipers or a tested and proven device/brand.
